In its first year as a member of the FHSAA in 2013, the Tampa Bay HEAT volleyball team, comprised entirely of home-schooled students, won a district title and reached the region championship. The following season, the team claimed a second district title and went a step further by advancing to the Class 2A state semifinals. If the pattern holds true, the HEAT will be playing in the state title match in November. “That’s our goal,” coach Mark Kachurak said. “Even during tryouts, that’s what I said to everyone.
